Stepping Out of Poverty – Providing local schoolchildren with free school shoes

Member News

The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation supports over 70 Northamptonshire schools with their food bank, breakfast boxes and Tech4Kids scheme. These services play a vital role in supporting local families in need, particularly during times of difficulty such as the Cost-of-Living Crisis.

Working alongside these schools, the charity has become increasingly aware of the struggles local school families face. Often, in times of hardship, families cannot afford even the most basic essentials. This means when the new school year rolls around, the pressure to purchase new uniforms for children can be immense for these families.

The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation believes no child deserves to attend school wearing uncomfortable shoes, and they want to provide as many children in need as possible with free school shoes for this reason.

Founder of the charity, Teresa McCarthy-Dixon, said ‘We see so many families working with our foodbank, and so many of them can barely afford to keep their lights on with the cost-of-living crisis at the moment. I can’t imagine the stress these families go through when it comes to needing to purchase often expensive uniforms each year.’ She continued, ‘We want to relieve this stress, even if only slightly, and hopefully this campaign will achieve this,’
