There is just over one month to go until golfers will be teeing off at Northampton Golf Club in Harlestone on Thursday  8 September for the Northamptonshire Health Charity 2022 Golf Day.  Recently announced as the current Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce Charity of the Year, the charity is looking for teams of 4 to sign up to help them raise much-needed funds for two of their current major fundraising appeals.

As the official registered charity for three local NHS Trusts across the county – Northampton General Hospital, Kettering General Hospital, and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (community and mental health hospitals and services) – they fund projects and initiatives that are above and beyond what the NHS provides funding for, seeking to enhance patient care and experience in all departments.

Money raised from this year’s event will be split equally between the fundraising appeal for the outside play area on the children’s wards at Northampton General and the Twinkling Stars appeal for a new maternity bereavement suite at Kettering General.

Sue Faulkner, Play Service Co-ordinator at Northampton General explains:

“Having a bright, welcoming new play area for children will be fantastic! It will be a therapeutic outdoor space where all children and parents can spend time outside, in all weathers. This space will help promote children’s health and wellbeing during their stay within the hospital environment.”

Lead Bereavement Midwife at Kettering General, Lisa Drummond, said:

“Each year we care for up to 100 families who suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby…While we work very closely and supportively with parents in this situation, we know that our facilities really let us down and we want to change that.”

At present, parents experiencing this devastating loss are in the delivery suite itself. They hear babies crying and it can be unavoidable to see a new mum with her baby. Amongst the new facilities, funding from the appeal will create a new bereavement room as well as a family room that is entirely separate from the delivery suite.

Charity Fundraiser, Rob Powell said,

“Thanks to those taking part last year we raised nearly £6,000 that was split between these two appeals. We always look forward to this event as people really enjoy a relaxed yet competitive game of golf. We really appreciate them raising so much money for us to support our local NHS.”

It costs £260 for your team of 4 golfers and there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams, nearest the pin and longest drive.  You will receive a bacon sandwich and hot drink on arrival, with a two-course dinner and prize presentation at the end of the day.  Hole sponsorship is also available.
