Walking For Health relaunched as Wellbeing Walks by Ramblers UK

The streets, parks and parishes of Northampton will be hearing the sound of healthy footsteps once again as health walks are being relaunched by Ramblers GB.

‘Wellbeing Walks’ are being managed by Trilogy Leisure on behalf of West Northamptonshire Council and are expected to be more popular than ever as people have recently found a new love of walking, especially following the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns.

“It is truly encouraging that many people are discovering how great a simple and pleasurable walk is for your health and physical and mental wellbeing,” said John Fletcher, Managing Director of Trilogy Leisure.

“As part of the national Ramblers Wellbeing Walks network, and on behalf of West Northamptonshire Council we are looking forward to providing group walks led by our trained volunteer walk leaders.

“Most walks are designed to be short and over easy ground, so they are ideal if you’ve never walked before. They’re a great way to meet new people and walk in good company, and to give your health and wellbeing a boost,” he said.

Trilogy Leisure is the leading health and fitness provider in Northampton and operates Cripps Recreation Centre, Danes Camp, Duston Sports Centre, Lings Forum, The Mounts Baths and the Forum Cinema as well as Berzerk Soft Play Centre.

Health walks are free, fun and leisurely walks designed for people that currently do little or no exercise. No specialist equipment is required and any one can turn up on the day. It is advisable for participants to wear suitable clothing and footwear for weather conditions.

The walks also form part of the Northampton ‘Activity on Referral’ which is a county wide scheme whereby GPs and Health Professionals can refer physically inactive people onto a tailor-made exercise programme to assist and support them to make healthier lifestyle choices.

“If your GP feels your health or medical condition would benefit from you becoming more active, you could be referred to us here at Trilogy Leisure,” John Fletcher said.

The scheme provides a 12 week programme of physical activity which is delivered by qualified fitness professionals. The scheme starts with a consultation who design an exercise plan tailored to suit you and which will help you to build up your weekly activity levels.

If you think you are eligible for the scheme then you need to contact your GP practice and ask about being referred onto the programme.
