Local young photographers get snappy at MK Gallery
Member News
MK Gallery received an unprecedented number of entries for its Young Photographer 2022 initiative which ran from April to June this year. More than 130 entrants who made the shortlist will have their photographs featured in the MK Gallery Young Photographer Exhibition which will open to the public on Friday 1 July after their invitation-only private view.
Tara Sheldon, MK Gallery Producer, Public Programmes (Children & Young People) said: ‘Huge congratulations goes to all the young people who submitted their photographs and to those shortlisted. We are thrilled to see that creativity and participation is thriving among MK’s young citizens.
‘Our artist-led photography workshops, current exhibition of street photography by Vivian Maier and support from entrants’ families have helped many budding photographers to create some incredible images. The exhibition is free to visitors and well worth viewing the photographers’ ways of seeing and how they captured this.’ At the private view in the Project Space, the young photographers and their families will be invited to visit the Gallery’s current exhibition, Vivian Maier: Anthology as well as enjoying light refreshments and a fun photography themed silent disco in the Event Space. The images will be judged by a panel of curators and photographers with prizes awarded to both individuals and schools.
As part of the Gallery’s celebration of all things photography this year, Young Photographer was an opportunity for all young people aged 4-19* living or studying in Milton Keynes to develop photographic skills, take part in an exhibition and have their work judged by a panel of curators and photographers. (*SEND up to 25 years). The categories for Young Photographer included Landscape, Portrait, and Street photography.
