In the case of McClung v Doosan Babcock Limited, the employment tribunal needed to determine whether Mr McClung’s support for Glasgow Rangers Football Club was a philosophical belief within the meaning of the Equality Act 2010.

The test to determine whether a particular philosophical belief is protected as such under the Equality Act 2010 derived from Grainger plc and others v Nicholson, called the Grainger criteria.
