How our gift packs are a lifeline for adult cancer patients in hospital

Member News

We received a lovely message that our overnight emergency gift pack saved a cancer patient family member a 30 mile round trip to get their night time essentials – underwear (variety of sizes – small, medium and large), socks, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, scrunchy, lip balm, notebook, pen and puzzle book.

Simple things, that make a huge difference when you are in a hospital setting without access to your home comfort and essentials.

The Lewis Foundation focuses on providing comfort and happiness to adult cancer patients in hospital by providing a variety of gift packs for free and spending time with patients to keep them company.

We currently provide a choice of 29 different gift packs to pick from – ranging from radios with batteries and headphones, hydration kits, skincare products and more. Every pack created has been as a result of patient and hospital staff feedback.

On entering a hospital setting a patient can either help themselves to a pack in the display shelf before checking in to reception or they will be offered a gift menu to pick their gift when entering the ward. They pick a gift of their choice, which is free for them to keep and no donation is taken in return. We do not want means to be a barrier. The hospital will store supplies of our packs on site, so they are available every day for patients to access. Our packs are available to everyone diagnosed with cancer, irrespective of the type of cancer you have.

To ensure we always have the items we need for packs we rely on raising funds through fundraising, funding, corporate sponsorship, donations, our coffee shop and pop up shop. Only around 5% of products for our packs are donated.

Due to our work with wholesalers, retailers and businesses, one gift pack cost £3.60 – a really simple way to make a huge difference.
