Free support to help SMEs plan for the year ahead

As we look to enter 2023, planning for the year ahead has never been more important, which is why HR specialists HR Solutions are hosting a free webinar next week to support SMEs in strategic thinking for the new year.
The UK’s employment climate remains volatile due to significant domestic and global influences, including rebuilding after the pandemic, Government changes, the war in Ukraine, a cost-of-living crisis, and a recession as well as potential new employment legislation.
For business owners, navigating the current landscape can be both daunting and overwhelming. The next few months are crucial for business, especially leading up to setting budgets for the 2023/2024 financial year.
The 2023 – Planning For The Year Ahead webinar will be held online on Thursday 8th December from 10am to 11am.
In it, the HR Solutions expert team will cover HR strategy, workforce planning, organisational structure, cost cutting and employee wellbeing.
HR Solutions CEO Greg Guilford said: “Workforce planning is fundamental for how a business responds in a recession. It is a process in which you look at the resources you have now and what is needed in the future to be able to deliver on the business objectives.
“It is perhaps obvious that due to recession, cost cutting is likely to become a priority for many firms. However, there can be a fine line as to which area of spend you freeze.
“For example, you may initially think that training costs should be frozen; but have you considered that investment in training and development may help the business to grow and become more productive?
“With the cost-of-living crisis and job certainty waning, employers are wise to focus on employee wellbeing and flexibility during 2023. Flexible working will be a key factor for many companies in order to increase morale and employee engagement, aid employee retention, and improve productivity, as well as provide greater diversity and inclusion.”
The webinar will also touch upon flexibility and hybrid working, training and development, employee engagement and employment legislation.
With many employment Bills in the pipeline, such as neonatal leave and pay, carers leave, dismissal and re-engagement, and tips to workers, it is vital to stay abreast of any legalities.
A recently new published Bill called the Retained EU Law (Reform and Revocation) Bill would result in a significant overhaul of UK employment law in 2023 if passed, because it repeals all existing EU legislation that much of domestic UK law is based upon.
Greg added: “A HR strategy is key to delivering on business goals. Planning ahead is the best way to identify any potential challenges and find solutions.
“At a time of unprecedented uncertainty and significant economic conditions, having a HR strategy and creating a people plan aligned to the business strategy will be key for driving forward the business.”
