Build A Career at Bhangals – Harrison Baxter

A natural eye for detail and father in the trades unsurprisingly led Bhangals Construction Consultants’ estimating manager Harrison Baxter quite neatly into a career in construction.

The 22-year-old is the third member of the team to feature in the company’s current Build A Career at Bhangals campaign, which celebrates opportunities in the construction sector.

Harrison studied product design at A-Level which led him to further research and a greater understanding of the processes used in the construction industry, the materials used and their properties.

He said: “My natural eye for detail and understanding of technical elements led me into a fitting career as a construction estimator, as these are some of the key skills required in the role.

“I enjoy the responsibility of my role. I must ensure that I am organised and have a plan throughout the day as the team look to me for answers and opinions that I can then advise on. It is satisfying when a busy day is planned and executed well to ensure all projects are completed and out on time to a high standard.”

Harrison is part of the Build A Career at Bhangals campaign, which has been launched to mark Careers in Construction Month during October.

The drive aims to shine a spotlight on the variety of roles available in the sector – and at the company itself – through sharing engaging stories across multiple platforms from people who have built a successful career at Bhangals.

Harrison is the perfect example. He was promoted to estimating manager in May 2022 and works across two businesses under the Bhangals umbrella. He is responsible for a team of around 20 estimators and ensures that all deadlines are met.

Harrison said: “I review the team’s work to ensure the standard is of the highest quality before we send it back to our clients. I also work on improvements that can be made to our systems across the business in order to ensure that it runs as efficiently as possible. I am also involved with our recruitment process that enables us to grow our team.”

Bhangals are currently recruiting for new team members and Harrison believes construction offers endless opportunities for the right candidates.

“There is so much variety within the construction industry,” he said. “Whether you want a more office-based role, or a hands-on role on site, there is a space in the industry for you.

“Construction can support many different ways of thinking. A logical thinker can be successful in aiding the planning and programming of projects, whereas someone with a creative and precise eye for detail may enjoy crafting bespoke items for client projects.

“And Bhangals allows so much room for growth and achievement. As quickly as someone picks things up they are able to progress here. The more work you put in the further you will go.”
