Another revamp for Big Charity Shop

Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity’s Big Charity Shop has had a refreshing refurbishment, just weeks after celebrating its first anniversary.

Since its much-needed revamp last May, customer transactions have increased by a whopping 170%, and in recent weeks, shoppers have seen even further improvements to the Moulton Park store.

The Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity team has widened the choice of clothing, homewares, furniture and other items for the home, along with improving the children’s toy area and enhancing the book and media departments.

Staff have expanded the sales floor space significantly, enabling the showcase of an ever-increasing level of products to provide for dramatically improved footfall.

The additional space has allowed for more furniture items to be displayed in store, giving customers a greater choice of items for their homes.

Donations can now also be accepted from Monday to Saturday, and a new driver means that the shop is introducing a Saturday collection and delivery service for donations and purchases from Saturday 13th August, to add to the weekday service.

Since the start of this financial year with the major positive changes in the store, a consistent high level of donations and the huge uptick in customer transactions, the Big Charity Shop has seen an astounding 230% increase in net profit contribution.

The store has contributed in excess of £60,000 to the charity’s fundraising mission.

Ladies clothing remains the top seller, which customers praise for its quality and affordable prices, and furniture donations and sales have increased by 28%.

The highest value items in store this year include an electric mobility vehicle which was valued at £2,000 and a vintage chess set which sold for £150 at the Big Charity Shop.

Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity’s head of commercial, Ruth Bain, said: “We have positively changed the look, feel, perception and reality of our store from what was known as a donation station previously to a great shopping experience for our customers.

“This is an Aladdin’s cave of pre-loved treasures that you won’t be able to resist and we have free parking enabling your visit to be stress-free and easy to access. We’ve made loads of changes which our sales team can’t wait to share with our very valued customers and donors. We want to celebrate all these improvements of our Big Charity Shop with you.

“We welcome all great donations and with our free furniture collection service, we are reaching out to our supporters to donate their quality furniture items which contribute significant income and profit for our palliative care services.

“We will soon have our van out and about five days a week with an additional driver and we will be able to offer our customers and donors a quicker collection and delivery service.”

The Big Charity Shop is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 4.30pm. To find out more about the shop, or if you would like to donate items, visit https://cynthiaspencer.org.uk/shop-with-us/
