Just like a face represents a person, the reception area represents and office space or business. Just like meeting someone face to face, people will similarly form an opinion or judgement about the business by their reception area. As the initial professional point of contact, it is important to make a good first and lasting impression. From meeting new clients to interviewing prospective employees, striking the right balance and interior design and furniture can make all the difference in creating new business relationships.

No matter how great your company is, or how interested the customers are, if the front of a business looks scruffy than it is bound to put potential clients off, even if the rest of the office is smart looking.

It is imperative that a company understands its target audience, which makes the business able to tailor their front of house to their target audience.

The importance of the reception desk is not only to look smart and stylish, but it has to be efficient as well due to the fact that most of the time this is where the front office department of the business are going to be. This means that there are many important tasks carries out in this area such as receiving and sending letters, attending phone calls and of course visitors. The design on the reception desk needs to ensure that it is designed in a way that these tasks can be carried out all at once. The reception desk
should never come in the way of smooth operations.

Commonly the reception desk will also be supplied with some  storage where the user can keep important documents safely. The desk should also be supplied with some cable management so that the wires are not exposed to the visitors.

The reception area in a way, is like a business card. Visitors should be able to walk in, look around and understand what the company does straight away. It needs to be welcoming but also project creativity by being interesting and surprising.
