The purpose of this course:

To train attendees to give an appropriate emergency first aid to anyone who is ill or injured in the workplace. The courses teaches the appropriate level of first aid required in low-risk businesses under the HSE 1981 Legislation. In addition, as part of the course students are assessed to ensure they understand and would be able to fulfil the role of first aider within their workplace.

Benefits to an organisation:

Under the 1981 HSE Regulations, employers are required to provide appropriate personnel so that their staff receive appropriate first aid if they fall ill or are injured at work. This course trains employees for this and candidates receive the statutory EFAW qualification.

Who is this course for?

Employees working in a fairly low-risk environment such as a small office. On completing this training employees would be able to take on the role of Emergency First Aider in their workplace.

  • Basic hygiene in first aid procedures
  • Primary survey
  • A casualty who is unconscious
  • Recovery position
  • Seizures
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Bleeding
  • Shock
  • Choking
  • First aid for minor injuries
  • Burns
  • Contents of a first aid kit
  • Procedure for reporting injuries

By the end of the course, the delegate will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and accidents
  • Understand the importance of basic hygiene in first aid procedures
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries

Timings: 8:45am – 4:00pm
