Corby-based See Limited has officially passed the sustainability baton to Eastfield Academy, visiting the Northampton school to present its students with the Sustainability of the Year award following their success at this year’s Northamptonshire Business Awards, held at Sywell Aerodrome on Friday 11^th September.

See Limited, which operates in the built environment industry, sponsored the Sustainability category at this year’s awards having been recognised for its commitment to sustainability in 2024 when it picked up the North Northamptonshire Sustainability Award for its positive work in integrating sustainability into their business practices and encouraging change across the construction industry as a whole.

Eastfield Academy was recognised for demonstrating environmental leadership and turning its commitment to sustainability into meaningful action through key sustainability initiatives including gardening and food-growing projects, recycling, community litter picks and working with local organisations and community groups to improve and care for local green spaces.

“Rather than simply presenting the award on the night, we wanted to take the opportunity to visit the school and celebrate the achievement with the students and staff who have helped make its sustainability work possible.

“It was a fantastic visit. It’s key to recognise the people behind the award and to underline the importance of encouraging sustainability from an early age. They should all be very proud of their efforts.”

Commenting on what the award win means for the school, Keleigh Moore, assistant principal at Eastfield Academy said: “For us, sustainability isn’t just something our students learn about in a lesson – it’s something they can actively be part of, so although Eastfield Academy’s name is on the award, our children are a huge part of the reason we won it.

“We were delighted that See Limited came into Eastfield to present the award directly to our pupils. They take part in our Eco Council, help grow fruit and vegetables, get involved with environmental projects and learn about the part they can play in protecting the world around them where this learning is interwoven into the curriculum.

“So, having the award presented to them at school makes the achievement much more tangible. Hopefully it will make them feel proud of what they have already achieved and inspire them to think about what we could do next.

“Over the next few years, we want to build on what we already have in place while also strengthening partnerships with organisations so that our sustainability work continues to reach beyond the school gates.”

The Northamptonshire Business Awards, organised by the Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce, saw businesses across the county celebrated across 14 award categories.
