Make a date: MK Gallery L A T E S

Member News

MK Gallery is hosting another one of its L A T E S evenings on Friday 4 November.

Rather than lights out at 5pm, the Gallery will be open and lit up until 10pm. So, after a busy working week, people can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of L A T E S. The café/bar will be serving chilled weekend-starts-here drinks. Local DJs will be curating smooth sound sets. Tables will be turned into paper ‘canvases’, and with POSCA pens to hand, the drawing can commence – perhaps inspired by the out-of-hours exclusive opportunity to see the Gallery’s latest exhibition, Larry Achiampong: Wayfinder. And, if that’s not enough, part of the Café will be turned into a gaming room reflecting some of Larry Achiampong’s influences.

And don’t worry about dinner, Yaw Asiamah – local chef, painter, playwright and poet – will be cooking up delicious African food including Honey Jerk Chicken, Butterbean and Mango Curry, Jackfruit and Bell Pepper Chilli – all served with Jollof Rice and a side of Kelewele (spiced fried ripe plantain) and a salad. See you there!

Additional late entry slots for the exhibition have been added for 6pm, 7pm and 8pm.

About the Exhibition

British-Ghanaian artist Larry Achiampong works in film, sculpture, installation, sound, collage, music and performance. His work draws on popular culture and his communal and personal heritage.

Included in his first major UK solo show to date is Achiampong’s debut feature length film Wayfinder, as well as a large presentation of his Pan African flags, life-sized Relic Traveller figures and Glyth collages. It will also reveal some of his influences from video games to the landscape paintings of JMW Turner.
