Inventor to speak at leading fire safety event
The inventor of the UK’s first online fire risk assessment system, who is now part of the team at the award-winning Acorn Safety Services, will share his knowledge and expertise at a leading fire safety event next month.
Peter Wilson will speak at the ICEL Emergency Lighting Conference 2026, taking place on Thursday 10th September 2026 at the Cavendish Conference Centre, London.
Organised by The Lighting Industry Association (The LIA) and the Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting (ICEL), and recognised as one of the UK’s leading events dedicated to emergency lighting, the conference brings together technical experts and professionals from across the built environment to explore the latest developments in standards, legislation, innovation and best practice.
Peter has been involved in fire risk assessment since 2001, when he designed and developed Firesmart – the UK’s first online fire risk assessment system. The venture attracted external investment and went on to assist more than 20,000 businesses in conducting fire risk assessments, with corporate clients including Tesco Group, Ladbrokes, Mears, and DHL.
Firesmart, which was later floated on the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market, was also promoted by AXA and Towergate Insurance to approximately 12,000 of their insured small and medium-sized businesses, helping to reduce risk and improve fire safety standards.
Peter, who sold his personal interest in the business in 2014, also collaborated with 16 UK fire and rescue services and London Metropolitan University to promote fire safety awareness and legislative compliance.
Earlier this year, Peter was one of five new fire safety consultants to join Acorn Safety Services, a multidisciplinary safety consultancy specialising in fire safety, asbestos management, legionella, and health and safety. His immense knowledge boosted the ranks, with Peter himself declaring: “I love making the world a safer place.”
Peter’s speech at the conference will be witnessed by his colleagues, Operations Director Zeynep Guzelkasap and Operations Manager Samantha Reeves will be attending to provide moral support.
