Have Your Say on the Future of Small Business Support
Entrepreneurs and small business owners across the UK – including those here in Northamptonshire – are being urged to share their views as part of a new inquiry into the government’s upcoming Small Business Strategy.
The Business and Trade Committee has launched the inquiry to ensure the voices of founders, freelancers, and independent business owners are properly heard as ministers prepare to shape future support for small firms.
With no formal consultation process currently in place, the committee is inviting business owners to complete a short survey or submit written evidence by 16th July 2025. The inquiry explores vital areas such as the rising cost of doing business, access to finance, government procurement, and how well current support services meet the real needs of SMEs.
In addition to these themes, the committee is asking business owners to reflect on the issues that matter most to them. You’ll be invited to answer questions such as:
- What trends or changes in the economy, technology, consumer behaviour, or regulation are shaping your business environment right now?
- Looking ahead over the next 3–5 years, where do you see the greatest opportunities for your business to grow or innovate?
- What are the biggest challenges or barriers you’re currently facing – whether it’s costs, access to finance, regulation, staffing, or competition?
- For businesses trading on or near the high street: what are the most pressing problems you’re experiencing?
- Are there national or local policies—or gaps in policy—that are placing unnecessary strain or uncertainty on your business?
- If you could recommend three top priorities for the Government’s new Small Business Strategy, what would they be?
- What’s the single most important action ministers could take to make a positive difference to small businesses like yours?
This is a unique opportunity to have your voice heard and help shape a strategy that reflects the realities of running a small business in today’s climate.
