3,500 Safe Starts: Baby Basics Northampton Reaches Historic Milestone for County’s Most Vulnerable Infants

NORTHAMPTON, UK – Baby Basics Northampton is proud to announce a significant milestone in its mission to support local families: the delivery of its 3,500th moses basket starter pack.

This landmark pack has been specially prepared for a family supported by AKG restart, a service dedicated to offering practical, personalised support to help people move forward with confidence, no matter where they are starting from.

Not only did AKG receive the 3500th starter pack for a family under their care but they also created it.

In a beautiful twist the organisation wanted to give back to the charity that they have referred into many times, they could see the real and vital impact that Baby Basics Northampton has on families and new babies in the county.

The amazing team of 8, volunteered their time during a session in which they created 4 extra safe places to sleep and organised and sorted bundles for many more.

This collaboration in the county is key to ensuring all families in need are cared for and supported.

Since the start, Baby Basics has grown to become the “community glue” for the county, now supporting 1 in 16 babies born across Northamptonshire.

The charity provides families in vulnerable situation with a “sanctuary in a basket” a moses basket filled with over 60 essentials, from brand new safety mattresses and clothing for their new baby to hospital bag items and hygiene products for the new parents.

“Reaching 3,500 packs is about more than just numbers; it’s about 3,500 nights of safe sleep for babies who might otherwise have had nowhere to lay their heads,” says Sabrina Oakey, CEO and Co-Founder for Baby Basics Northampton. “By partnering with specialist agencies like AKG, we ensure that the most vulnerable people in our community feel seen and supported. Our essential starter packs are a message to a parent starting over saying ‘You are not alone, and your community cares.'”

The charity has set an ambitious 10-year target to ensure that every baby in the county has a safe place to sleep. With demand continuing to grow, they have recently moved into a new space within the Commsave building in Moulton Park.

After being named their Charity of the Year in 2025, the partnership has created a lasting legacy of support through this new space. Doubling the size of their previous premises, the new location not only provides greater capacity to meet increasing demand but also creates more opportunities to collaborate with local businesses and community groups through volunteering initiatives.
