£20,000 raised in the anniversary edition of C4C

Compassionate cyclists raised more than £20,000 on Sunday (27th September) in the anniversary edition of popular cycling challenge Cycle4Cynthia, organised by Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity.

Hundreds of riders took part in the milestone race, which started and finished at the historic Holdenby House, and took in local landmarks including Althorp House, Kelmarsh Hall and Cottesbrooke Hall, through rolling countryside.

Each of them was encouraged to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship to mark the hospice’s 50th anniversary in 2026, and the event didn’t disappoint, racking up an impressive fundraising total in the thousands, backed by plenty of community spirit.

This year’s event was particularly poignant, as one of the flagship events to mark 50 years of palliative care by Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

As well as the usual 10 mile and 25-mile routes for casual cyclists and families, participants also had the opportunity to take on the “Big 50” 50-mile mega route which was designed for seasoned riders who wanted to push their limits for the beloved cause.

Spectators, corporate sponsors and volunteers enjoyed family activities and kept morale high in the Charity Village, where every cyclist crossed the finish line and collected a commemorative medal.

Kerry Baker completed the 25-mile course with her husband, sister and brother-in-law and said riding together made it more special for her family.

“As a family who has experienced first-hand what it is like to have someone close to us need care and support, we really appreciate the importance of the work Cynthia Spencer Hospice does for local families,” said Kerry. “It felt like a lovely way to support a charity that provides such an important service within our community – even more so as they celebrate 50 years this year.

“It was a great opportunity to spend time together, get out on our bikes and support a fantastic local cause at the same time. We absolutely loved the whole day from the atmosphere at the start line, to the amazing volunteers cheering us on along the route, and then the fantastic welcome at the finish, there was such a brilliant sense of community.”

She added: “For me, supporting local charities such as Cynthia Spencer is incredibly important because these organisations are right here in our communities, supporting local people and their families when they need it most. The work they do has a huge impact, often during some of the most difficult and emotional times in people’s lives. Being able to play a small part in helping them continue that work is something I’m really proud to support.”

Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity Community & Events Fundraiser Lead Katie Fouracre said: “Cycle4Cynthia is one of our flagship fundraisers, and we are immensely grateful to all the cyclists who took part in this fantastic challenge. This year was incredibly special as our Big50 mile route marked five decades of the care we have provided in Northamptonshire, something we are very proud of.

“Seeing so many riders work together to raise over £20,000 is inspiring and their amazing efforts will go towards safeguarding our vital services for our community, when they need it the most.

“Thank you to everyone who took part, who came along as cheerleaders and to all our sponsors and volunteers, without whom, events like this would not be possible.”
