Windrush Celebration Rushden Hall Park 20th June 2026!

The Windrush Celebration is a nation family event. It is a way of remembering the people who were actively encouraged from Commonwealth countries, and the Caribbeans to come and help rebuild Britain after the second world war due to severe labour shortages in key industries including Manufacturing, Construction, transport and the newly established NHS. Many of these people came without knowing what life for them will be in England but they responded faithfully to the ‘Mother Land’. They lived through the harsh weather which was unforgiven and faced so many setbacks but they pressed on. They brought with them diverse food and  music genre (Calypso) that we still enjoy today.

Today United Kingdom looks so different from when the first Windrush Generation arrived at the shores of Tilbury Docks in Essex on June 22, 1948 carrying 492 Caribbean migrants.

BAK UP CIC is holding various educational workshops and celebration from the 15th -19th June 2026 (workshops).  20th of June (Rushden Hall Park)  to celebrate the Windrush Generation and their descendants. Any organisation that would like us to invite us for a couple of hours to run a Windrush Workshop can contact us via admin@bakupcic.co.uk. This is also an opportunity for local businesses, charitable organisations and system partners to get involve, showcase their services and the opportunities they bring to our communities .  Our aim is that through this Windrush Celebrations we will embrace the values that binds us all together and forge towards a better work-place, county and a nation that works for all.
