Experiences of Work – Supporting 16 – 18 year olds
We would like to get in touch with organisations such as yourselves that would make great role model employers for our young learners, aged 16-18, to ask if you are able to welcome a young person into your workplace to gain experience.
Dear employer,
Our young learners will soon be seeking opportunities where they can gain experiences of work as part of their Study Programme. We encourage learners to contact employers themselves within work sectors they are interested in, and this year we are helping learners to get a head start as the past many employers were unfortunately not able to offer experiences.
Gaining experiences of work with employers helps our younger learners learn about the knowledge, skills and behaviours that are valued in the workplace. Plus, as an employer, you get to build on your positive employer image and access a pipeline for future talent too!
We recognise that every organisation and employer is different, which is why there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach, though here are some brief points to help decide if welcoming a young person is right for you:
• Voluntary un-paid opportunity for one learner
• At least 10 hours (or more) over two weeks
• During weeks commencing 2 March and 9th March 2026
• Learners due to contact employers early December 2025
• Existing employers’ liability insurance policy covers work placements
• Learners have little or no relevant work history, though will be motivated and demonstrate a willingness to work
• Informal interviews, either in person or by phone or teams
• No lengthy paperwork
Whatever you feel you can offer will be extremely well received and could make all the difference to a young person just starting out in their career journey. I look forward to hearing from you: louise.williams@northnorthants.gov.uk
