NYK and Yusen Logistics showcase space industry innovation in Singapore

Northants-based logistics company, Yusen Logistics, and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) travelled to Singapore to jointly exhibit at the Global Space Technology Convention and Exhibition (GSTCE).

Under the theme of ‘From Ocean to Orbit’, NYK showcased its ability to develop space infrastructure, including offshore launch and rocket recovery vessels, as well as new possibilities for the maritime industry through the utilisation of satellite technologies.

Yusen Logistics, drawing on its extensive experience in international logistics, presented its capabilities in the global transportation of space-related equipment such as satellites and rocket components, along with supply chain solutions at an operational level tailored to the needs of the space industry.

On the first day of the exhibition, a panel discussion titled ‘Fixing the Broken Supply Chain of Space: How Just-in-Time Launch Becomes Possible’ was held, featuring Daisuke Suga, Head of the Advanced Business and Space Business Development Team within NYK’s Innovation Promotion Group, as a panelist. The session brought together experts representing different roles across the space ecosystem, including satellite components, communications and operations, and orbital deployment. The panelists exchanged views on the key challenges facing the overall space supply chain and discussed potential approaches to addressing these issues.

During the exhibition, representatives of NYK and Yusen Logistics also met with Jeremy Chan, Executive Chairman of Singapore Space and Technology Think Tank (SST Think Tank) and organiser of GSTCE. The meeting provided an important opportunity to exchange views on the evolving space ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific region and to strengthen relationships with a key organisation driving industry development.

A spokesperson for Yusen Logistics said: “GSTCE is an international conference and exhibition focused on space technology and the commercialisation of space business. It brings together government agencies, space-related companies, startups, investors and other stakeholders, serving as a platform for information exchange and business matching aimed at advancing the space industry in the Asia-Pacific region. Yusen Logistics was proud to exhibit jointly with NYK.”
