I started my week with a visit to a business I first met two years ago.

At the time, they decided bespoke software wasn’t the right fit, mainly due to perceived cost and the time investment involved. Instead, they opted for an off-the-shelf solution.

Fast forward to today. They’ve spent heavily on an off-the-shelf solution but yet are still doing things manually.

Sadly, I see this a lot and it’s often only after hitting the limits of off-the-shelf software that the real value of a bespoke solution clicks.

It’s also why I’m never pushy when it comes to speaking with potential clients. If it’s the right fit, the conversation will come back around because too many SMEs are still trying to fit their business around software, instead of the other way round.
