Launch of report highlights commitment to sustainability in built environment industry

A leader in sustainable solutions for the built environment has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability with the launch of its ‘See Our Impact’ report.
Compiled in collaboration with the Sustainable Business Alliance (SBA), which provides SMEs with practical tools to help them understand their priorities and report their impact, the report details See Limited’s efforts in reducing its carbon footprint and highlights the wider impact of its sustainability initiatives within the local community.
Key achievements of the group holding company include transitioning to a verified renewable energy supplier, a £700,000 investment in machinery at its Halifax site, Performance Panels to optimise machinery performance and reduce operational emissions, the installation of 316 Solar PV panels at Bousfields, its production facility in Corby, Northants to reduce grid reliance, investment in reforestation initiatives, the purchase of certified Gold Standard carbon credits for residual emissions and its work within the community, including annual sponsorship of the Kettering Ladies Cricket team.
In compiling the report, See Limited completed a double materiality assessment to determine the environmental, social and governance topics most relevant to its impacts, risks and stakeholders, with the report being independently verified by Aston University.
The report builds on the company’s efforts in sustainability and innovation, which has seen the award-winning company picking up a plethora of award wins including the Sustainability Award at the Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards (NBEAs), Gold Award for Business Innovation at SME Northamptonshire Business Awards and Innovation of the Year at the National Building and Construction Awards.
Of the collaboration, Simon Derrick, SBA Founder said: “We were first introduced to See Limited around 18 months ago through our involvement with the University of Northampton Sustainability Summit. Since then, we’ve worked closely with the team to develop a reporting framework that enables See Limited to credibly communicate its sustainability performance and demonstrate the significant progress already made.
“The development of the framework has been supported by Dr Ebenezer Laryea, now at Aston University, who played a key role in the independent verification process, alongside Dr Oluwaseyi Omoloso at the University of Northampton, who contributed to elements of the materiality assessment and supporting research.
“What stands out about See Limited is that sustainability is embedded within the culture of the business. They recognise that it goes far beyond carbon – encompassing wider environmental impacts, governance and, critically, people. This report reflects a company that understands it is on a journey, is transparent about its progress, and is committed to continuous improvement.”
Commenting on the launch of its report, CEO at See Limited, Robert Thompson said: “Sustainability is woven into every aspect of our operations, guiding decisions in governance, employment, product development, and environmental management.
“We are proud to lead by example and the progress we have made, from investing in renewable energy and embedding carbon reporting into strategy, to creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and able to grow, is reflected in the report.
“A big thank you goes out to all the team at See Limited who were involved in the success of the sustainability reporting project which culminated in the launch of the new report.
“Going forward, our long-term ambition is to go beyond carbon neutrality and become a carbon negative business, sequestering more carbon than we emit. Achieving this will require creativity, collaboration with our suppliers, and the courage to do things differently.”
