Future Vision – Wellingborough School Opens ‘The Gateway’ to Pupils

Pupils at Wellingborough School were excited this week as lessons were taught in their newly completed and aptly named ‘The Gateway’ building. Hidden behind scaffolding and hoarding the striking brick and glass facility has come to life as it finally opened its doors.

The Gateway building marks the first major development in a 30-year masterplan designed to preserve the School’s excellence and historical legacy, while meeting the evolving demands of modern education. Headteacher Simon Hawkes, who joined the school last summer explained:

“While the building has a focus on technology, we didn’t want it to be seen as purely design and tech centred – it’s about digital literacy – equipping pupils with the skills and knowledge they need to be workplace-ready.”

The future-ready facility will house textiles, food technology, design technology workshops, alongside seminar rooms, CAD suits and a 220-seat lecture theatre. Designed with innovation in mind, The Gateway will help future-proof the School, by supporting teaching and learning as rapid technological advancement continues to transform education. It will add value for pupils across the whole school community, while also creating opportunities for collaboration with the wider local community.

“We are working to form stronger partnerships with local organisations, primary schools and businesses, The Gateway building is not just opening up opportunities for our pupils, it’s a gateway to the school itself, enabling us to build stronger links with our wider network.

Wellingborough School will be holding an Open Day on the 7th March, where families will have the opportunity to tour the new building, book on their website: www.wellingboroughschool.org.
