Knights of Old has won a prestigious industry award for its commitment to training and developing its employees, and thanked Northamptonshire Chamber for ‘the large part it has played it the company’s training programme’.

The Kettering-based logistics company was recognised at The United Kingdom Warehousing Association’s (UKWA’s) Annual Awards, where it scooped the top honour in the Training category.

Knights of Old is committed to creating a culture of continuous learning and development that encourages employees to reach their full potential, and this is what impressed the judges. The company calculates that each of its employees spends around 7% of their time undertaking some form of training.

Back in 2011, Northamptonshire Chamber partnered with Knights of Old to offer a bespoke programme of business training courses to its staff in-house, including Time Management, Business Writing, Assertiveness Skills, Presentation Skills and Self Development. This partnership has continued over the last two years, with one course running every month. The courses are open to all staff to attend and any spare spaces are offered to other companies in the local area.

Nick Bithell, HR Manager at Knights of Old, said: “We use Northamptonshire Chamber for both bespoke, Tailor Made Training, and off the shelf courses from its Training Calendar. With the bespoke training service, we will sit down with the Chamber and put together a plan that meets our needs exactly and they will then deliver that to our staff. It has been very successful.

“This arrangement means we receive external training which brings modern techniques and ideas into the business and strengthens our staff’s abilities within their roles. Our staff know that we have invested in their future and that we are spending time on ensuring they get the best training possible and the Chamber training is very high quality.

“Our relationship with the Chamber is very good. The Chamber is flexible, very easy to work with, and provides courses that are relevant. We will continue to use them.”

Northamptonshire Chamber offers a comprehensive programme of business-related training courses using proven independent trainers. It also offers a Tailor Made Training service, which helps companies to develop a bespoke training package for several members of staff with the same training need and delivers it at the company.
