Milton Keynes & South Midlands Growth Plan
In 2001, The Milton Keynes and South Midlands area was identified as a potential major growth region. A resulting strategy has confirmed that Northamptonshire will be a focal point of development with a massive 100 000 new homes to built by 2021, the vast commercial opportunities that accompany such a landmark development are obvious;
more homes, more people, and more money in the region than ever before- rich opportunities await businesses not only in construction but in service industries, creative industries, tourism & leisure, healthcare, manufacturing & logistics, not to mention many others.
The Northamptonshire Chamber has been the voice for business at every stage of the growth plans development, and has responded on behalf of members to every consultation and planning document that has been published on the plans. Who is going to make this growth happen?
There are two bodies charged with delivering the landmark plans, each with a Board made up of private sector and public sector representatives: West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) will manage growth in Northampton, Daventry and Towcester; North Northants Development Company (NNDC) is tasked with overseeing the growth in Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire. These bodies will need to work with businesses of all kinds - developers, investors, construction companies, utilities providers - to ensure that the housing, jobs, and services needed are available. They will also need to work with the education sector, health sector and transport agencies amongst others to provide the schools, health facilities, roads and public transport required to keep our towns and communities functioning smoothly.
