Businesses urged to have their say on East Midlands Rail Franchise
On 1st March the Department for Transport announced that three bidders (see below) had pre-qualified to bid in the competition for the East Midlands Rail Franchise which will run passenger services from November 2018.
- Arriva Rail East Midlands Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Arriva UK Trains Limited
- First Trenitalia East Midlands Rail Limited, a joint venture company wholly owned by First Rail Holdings Limited and Trenitalia UK Limited
- Stagecoach East Midlands Trains Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Stagecoach Transport Holdings Limited
The East Midlands Rail Franchise includes inter-city services on the Midland Mainline from London to Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield, in addition to serving stations at Kettering, Wellingborough and Corby.
The franchise in total runs around 470 services per day carrying on average 26 million passengers per year. A detailed map of the stations covered by the East Midlands Franchise can be viewed here.
The new franchise is vital in supporting the government’s ambitions to make the Midlands region an engine for growth by improving connections within and outside the region and supporting the East Midlands industry and leisure economy.
Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce have been invited to an East Midlands Franchise Competition meeting on Monday, 24th April. As a result we’re currently seeking views of member firms.
