The University of Northampton
The University of Northampton is running a special event on Thursday 11 February for regional businesses to have their say on the current state of corporate leadership in the global marketplace. Chamber members can go for FREE if they mention their membership at the time of booking.

‘Business at a Crossroads: The Crisis of Corporate Leadership’ is the first of a new series of CEO-level events being run in partnership between The University of Northampton and the Institute of Directors.

The early evening event, running from 6:00pm–8:30pm, will feature commentary from management writer and author, Tom Lloyd. A former editor of Financial Weekly and Management today, Tom’s books cover challenging topics head-on, and his latest – also titled ‘Business at a Crossroads’ - is no exception.

Opening the evening, Tom will stress the view in his book that big businesses have caused markets to spiral out of control. His presentation will be followed by a Q&A session between an expected audience of 50, and a panel of senior business leaders.

John Jones of The University of Northampton, explained: “This will be a unique opportunity for company directors to open 2010 by meeting peers from a variety of businesses, to discuss key challenges faced by their respective sectors and share ideas on solutions.

“The occasion will also offer opportunities for delegates to develop new contacts in their supply chain within a professional setting, facilitated by two of the County’s leading business support organisations.”

The theft this week of copper telephone and data wiring from BT service ducts has caused widespread disruption to businesses in the area. Many have suffered a partial loss of their telephone and fax lines, some have lost them all.

At Datasharp we understand the importance of business continuity. Having a ‘failover position’ when technology lets you down is not just good practise, its essential to staying in business.

To help members prepare for another similar occurrence we have come up with an offer to make it inexpensive to install a telephone system capable of failing over in the event of an emergency.

The emergence of IP Telephony in recent years has made building in resiliency to your telephone system arrangements much easier and less costly then previously. Any IP telephone at a given location (site A) can also be registered with another system elsewhere (site B). What this means is that in the event of site A failing for any reason, the phones at site A will continue to work because they will have ‘failed over’ to site B. Site B takes control of the phones even though they are located elsewhere.

All that is required is an IP connection of some kind between the two sites, broadband, leased line or wireless.

The Offer

For a resilient solution two systems are required, one for site A and one for site B.
